BotswanaPost Foundation Launched
On the 8th November 2011, BotswanaPost launched BotswanaPost Foundation, at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). The Foundation is set up to drive BotswanaPost’s corporate social responsibility programme.
When giving the background of the Foundation, the Chairman of BotswanaPost Board Mr Martin Makgatlhe said a framework to establish a Foundation was developed to consolidate corporate social responsibility focus. On approval in 2010, the former Board Chairman Mr. Bernard Letsididi was appointed as the Founding Chairman. “He brings with him a wealth of experience in corporate gorvernance”.
The Chairman emphasized the key focus areas which “are to promote the arts, social issues and educational activities. He also mentioned that BotswanaPost will put aside an annual budget for the implementation of the CSR programmes.
When officially launching the Foundation Dr Alinah Segobye, BotswanaPost Vice Chairman said the “Foundation will afford BotswanaPost a smart business opportunity to identify problems, seek solutions and build mutually beneficial relationships with communities and at the same time contributing to being a good corporate citizen”.
She also mentioned that the Foundation will also provide opportunities for employees, communities and nongovernmental organisations to uplift the lives of local communities by identifying priority issues and contributing solutions towards attaining the goals of the Foundation. She encouraged organizations to follow in the footsteps of BotswanaPost as this will accord them the opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities we come from.
