Following the Wetlands Stamp issues for the Okavango
and the Chobe, BotswanaPost is proud to recognise the
Makgadikgadi and Nxai National parks.
Located in the east central region and covering 12,000
square kilometres, the salt pans of the Makgadikgadi
and Nxai impact greatly on Botswana's phisical appearance.
The two pans making up the Makgadikgadi region the Ntwetwe
and the Sowa, are the largest of their kind in the world.
Most of the year these pans are bone dry, but when the
summer rains come, this salty wildeness undergoes a
transformation. Countless waterbirds, including pelicans
and enormous flocks of flamingos are drawn to the shallow
sheets of water.
