  CORPORATE PROFILE

MANDATE

BotswanaPost was established by Parliament under the Botswana Postal Services  Act No. 22 of              1989.  It is a statutory corporation wholly owned by the Government of Botswana, under the Ministry                 of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST).  BotswanaPost is mandated to provide,                develop, operate and manage postal services in an efficient and cost-effective manner and carryout               other operations as may appear to be conducive to the attainment of all or any objective, and                        also to enter into bilateral agreements with other postal administration on postal services matters.

STRUCTURE

BotswanaPost is under direct control of the Board of Management, appointed by the Minister of      Communication, Science & Technology.

The Director General who manages BotswanaPost is assisted by three Directors namely of Customer       Services, Corporate Service Services and Financial Services, a senior and middle management team               and staff.

OPERATIONS

Botswana Post has a postal network of 119 post offices and 78 postal agencies  countrywide divided              into 3 regions, namely, Central, North and South. Botswana Couriers, a  wholly owned subsidiary of BotswanaPost provides courier delivery services throughout the country. 

the primary responsibility of BotswanaPost is to provide a Universal Postal Services (UPS) to all               citizens of Botswana. UPS is defined as "Providing postal services to as many people as possible               at the most affordable". BotswanaPost provides a wide range of services and products designed               to help customers in their business and personal needs as listed below:

AGENCY SERVICES

BotswanaPost also provides various services on behalf of Government departments, parastatals and               the the private sector.

·         Department of Social Benefits, Ministry of Local Government:  Payment of Old Age Pension,              World War II Veterans and Destitute

·         Botswana Savings Bank:  Provide banking service to their client-base i.e. opening of                           new accounts, closing of accounts, deposits and withdrawals

·         Motor Vehicle Accident fund:  Assist claimants to fill in Form B5 and forwards information to             MVAF.

·         Botswana Power Corporation: Collection of payments (bills, connections, monthly instalments).

·        Botswana Life Insurance Limited:  Application for and payment of monthly
