As part of the Strategic Plan called Pinagare
which spans the period 2006-11, BotswanaPost has identified the
Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) sector as one of the key
areas that offers opportunity for diversification of our product and service
offerings while simultaneously generating increased revenues.
As a postal service provider, BotswanaPost is
well placed to participate fully in the ICT sector while contributing to the
achievement of two of the pillars of Vision 2016 namely "An educated and
informed nation" and "A prosperous, productive and innovative nation".
Various services targeted on the individual
and business community are offered at the Business and Communications
Centres namely:
- Internet and Email
- Desk Top Publishing i.e. .typing, design
of presentations, event programmes etc
- Business Services such faxing, binding,
laminating, scanning and copying
- Stationery sales
- Sale of niche market tourist
artifacts/curios
- Sale of packaging material
Apart from the above offering, there are
opportunities for BotswanaPost to venture into being an ISP, providing
access to e-shopping and e-Government services at Post Offices and a
range of other services. Discussions are ongoing with our line Ministry
of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) for the expansion of
the Kitsong Centres to 25 Post Offices by the end of 2007.
The core focus of these Centre will be to provide a hub for e-commerce
within communities in addition to wider e-Government services - all at
the click of a button; thus saving citizens time, money and effort spent
in travelling to major areas to obtain service.
To date, there are four such Centres
offering a range of these services at Poso House (Gaborone), River Walk
Mall (Gaborone); Blue Jacket Square (Francistown) Chobe Business Centre
(kasane) ,and Ncojane.
